KINGS

I don't disagree with a "true kings" definition as one who is decisive, who loves, and who is wise whatsoever. I actually like the sound of that a lot better. Although the term "KING," when it was introduced to the HIP-HOP culture, has developed it's own meaning. "KING" is actually a term used by graffiti bombers. For instance, in San Diego we have "Parasite" who is "KING of the orange line," those who take that trolley route know what I'm talking about. The darkside of the hip-hop culture is that it's not ALWAYS "peace, love, unity, and having fun." KING is supposed to be defined as something egotistical. Which is why I want to bring up the point that we shouldn't take our name so lightly just because we are decisive, because we love, and because we are wise. We could acknowledge those traits but if we are to represent a name such as CYPHER CITY KINGS, we better come with it, "destroy all lines." Battling is all about proving one's self and the more we have to defend our name and prove that we are "kings", the stronger our reputation becomes. The reason why I quoted STYLE WARS, " if you specialize in one thing, you can't call yourself an all out king," is strictly because I don't want anyone who reps our name to take the term KINGS too lightly. Also the reason why Andre and Austin have to earn KINGS on their own. If you've ever been bashed when we were out of town, then maybe you'd know where I'm coming from with this.

I finally got hired!

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Two things that I absolutely love in my life right now.

Our hard working crew! Cypher fucking City Kings
You guys make me proud. If I were to put into words what I was feeling, I'd have to say that our achievements, and just the way we all click, has exceeded my expectations of a crew. I've always wanted to build a reputation from scratch, this was like THEEE perfect opportunity. I love how we share the same drive and motivation to strive for more. Everyone in this crew proved to me that they're my fam. Even outside of dancing you guys were there for me. YES HOMO. If it wasn't for this crew, where the fuck would I be? You guys are my best pals. YES HOMO.

Ann, I fucking love you.

Enough said! HAHA you're the best, what else could I say? I don't think I'd be who I am at this moment if it weren't for you. No matter how much bullshit I made you go through, you were still there. That's DFTS NIGGA! hahaha, that's down for the set if you're wondering. Even if I don't deserve it, I appreciate everything you do for me and you're someone who I definitely do not want to take advantage of. You make my day everyday and I ENJOY my time spent with you.

Essence.

What I really like about this clip is the jazz tempo incorporated in their b-boying. The tempo changes and their interpretation of the music was definitely on point. This kind of reminds me of why I fell in love with the dance in the first place.

Arteest.

*Whining alert*

Man... I was getting used to sleeping at or before 12! It turns out that my old habits have stuck around and caught up to me. Anyway today was a good day :). Went to OB with Tony for his Geology class and bumped into a whole mess of junkies. Some girl really just interrupted the class talking about how great 'acid' is... "-_-" Then I got to spend some quality time with miss Pullido. She watched me as I ate, once again. I'm so fat! (not really, you just make me feel that way.) Hm other than all of that... I need a !@$%ing job!

The Bottle - Joe Bataan

Ba ba ba.

World of Dance was a little more than I expected. It was the same set up as last time which was on a stage. All I can really say about the crew is that we did fairly well. It was all good because we actually placed and advanced more than we did last year at least. I'm very proud of how we carried ourselves out there and I'm only beginning to crave for more. I'll post up footage later!

The BIG Payback

Today, well yesterday...or actually 4 hours ago was a good turnout. Fun stuff like always! It was Kid Nasty, Austin, Andre and myself who repped for CCK. We made it to the finals, good job you guys! Our final battle against Rock So Fresh was a "Battle until you drop." That was dope.

Cypher City Kings

Why "Cypher City"? And why do we call ourselves "Kings"? In the time frame of August 2007 until now, we've caused a lot of ruckus and regardless of what anyone says, we've done some damage. I mean that in the most humblest form possible! I find myself getting hungrier and hungrier and only wanting more. All throughout Cali, we've been called out and confronted...I love it! HAHA, I think that's a misconception that most people might have with us. It's not that we say we're kings to get others heated, it's something we hope to accomplish. Paulskeee always gives us shit about it, and when I regard his name; we give him the utmost respect and we love the fact that he looks out for us. "To be able to call yourself a 'KING', you have to be feared worldwide." I don't know if it's because we're just too stubborn to change/downgrade the name, or simply because we've grown attached to the name and just love defending it. We grew up watching cats like Optic, Joey Gold, and E-swift who carried that "TUFF ROCKIN'' persona. We represent Cypher City because we want everyone to get that feel that we do when we vibe out down here. Non of that bullshit pre-meditated rounds of choreographed sets, just straight up venting and cyphering.
Here's another piece of thought that I just wanted to throw out there. We don't give in to the mainstream mania, we simply do what we feel as dancers. Everything that we do revolves around what we provide for each other.

I know it's a day too early but here's another!

latin asscape - brownout

Update!

Sooo as of now... Elliot and Julius are now officially living in Orange County which leaves Kid Nasty and I in San Diego, defending the name. Thanks a lot you guys, thanks. Haha. Elliot is currently in the process of transferring over to Fullerton, he gets to groove out with Future everyday since they're roomies which is pretty dope. Julius is attending UC Irvine as a Freshmen and has his own dorm but no car! Booooo... No excuses, you still have to train your ass off. I wanted to write a blog because I wanted to give myself, and others who may be interested, an idea of what is to come from the crew this season.

- Despite us being separated, we do plan on still traveling and making more noise in the scene.
World of Dance, Undadog, Mighty 4, Evolution 4, etc.
- Anthony and I have already approached two potentials, I'm sorry but I'm choosing not to disclose that as of right now ;). Just know that we've kept a close eye on these kids for quite sometime!
- I am currently jobless and I idiotically missed this semester which will put me back. In the meantime, I will probably put 90% of my focus on the crew.
- We now teach at Culture Shock Dance Studio, by we I mean Kid Nasty and myself, Dyno Rock. It's every Saturday from 12:30 -2:30. Beginning and Intermediate. It's tons of fun! You should come :).
- I think that our crew, CCK, being in the situation that it's in...actually gives us an opportunity to put an extension on our reputation down here in SO CAL.

My personal goal for the crew:
Even if we can't train the way we're used to, I hope that we can all stay hungry and still share the same desire to DESTROY ALL LINES! (Excerpt from Style Wars; I had to, sorry!)

Oh and I'm also going to start posting up the "break of the day," enjoy!
